Role models to inspire minority communities
Successful people should be role-models to inspire minority communities.
According to Shakina Chinedu, Oxford University Equality and Diversity Adviser, the late academic and cultural theorist and sociologist Stuart Hall (1934-2014), AKA "the godfather of multiculturalism", should be promoted as one such role model.
After his death in February 2014, Chinedeu revealed that her university refused to remember Stuart Hall in a daily employee bulletin. "They said his academic career wasn't spent long enough at Oxford University”
Chinedu’s argument is that over the years Oxford University has not had that many black scholars - this is why Oxford should have recognised Stuart Hall. “I have been trying to get more images of black scholars on Oxford University walls, “ stated the university’s Equality and Diversity Adviser.
Stephen Rouse, Head of News and Information Office at Oxford University, responded by saying that it would be “impossible to include the passing of every notable alumni”.
The university spokesman denied snubbing the memory of Professor Hall, who, he said, was extensively remembered when he died.
