Bangladesh elects first transgender mayor

Youmanity congratulates Nazrul Islam Ritu on becoming the first transgender mayor in Bangladesh. Largely a Muslim country, passports designating a ‘third gender’ were in introduced in 2013.
On 28th October 2021 the US issued the very first gender-neutral 'X' passport for citizens who do not wish to identify as either male or female.
Being able to be oneself is becoming increasingly important for people's mental health and wellbeing.
