European Day of Languages
The European Day of Languages is 26 September, as proclaimed by the Council of Europe, is to encourage people to learn a new language and, of course, appreciate the importance of cultural diversity.
Below are some of the events organised by Stephen Turkington, Language Officer at European Commission Representation in the UK:
Monday 24 September – 18.30 to 20.30 – Europe House, London
Sign Languages of Europe, in collaboration with the Association of Sign Language Interpreters, and also marking the first ever International Day of Sign Languages, on 23 September.
Wednesday 26 September – 16.00 to 20.30 – Europe House, London
Indigenous Languages of the UK: talks and taster classes covering Cornish, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Scots, Ulster Scots and Irish.
Saturday 29 September – start times at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm – Shoreditch High Street station, London
Wordkeys! Translation Treasure Hunt. Join us one last time for the famous language game with literary translator Rosalind Harvey.
