'Home, my Place in the World' opens at the Wandsworth Museum
Home, my Place in the World’ photography exhibition opened with some excitement on 9th May. Artists from several different countries, whose work is on display at the Wandsworth Museum, attended the private view. Mashid Mohadjerin, Carlo Omodei, Thomas Dryeden-Kelsey, Ottavia Castellina, Dionysis Kouris, Francesco Caradonna among others joined Councillors Nicola Nardelli and Jane Cooper for a tour of the exhibition.
Guided by the YOUMANITY’s Chairman, Angelo Iudice, and the Director of the Wandsworth Museum, Neil Couzins, the invited guests had an opportunity to admire over 50 award-winning images - all from previous editions of the YOUMANITY Photography Award.
All of the photographs on display aim to underline the importance of migrants in a globalised world.
But cherry on the cake for the exhibition will be the wining works from the current 2013 photography edition. With the title of "Home, my place in the world” submissions for the YOUMANITY Photography Award 2013 are open until 28 may. The annual award is dedicated to social reportage that better interprets today’s concept of home as the place where one is harmoniously in tune with the place and people around them: an intercultural world of different people and cultures, colors and traditions.
With the main objective of promoting cultural diversity, YOUMANITY sees ‘diversity’ as an added value and not as a limitation or division. With this year’s photography award, the Accademia removes political barriers between states celebrating humanity as an all-inclusive world. Of course, this is pure utopia for a world with no physical borders, but it does raise awareness on the economic importance that migrants take to the business table.
Submissions for the 2013 edition close 28th May. For details of the terms click here
