More rubbish women wanted in Parliament
16 November 2017
Shadow Equalities Secretary Dawn Butler said that ‘Parliament will only achieve equality when there are as many rubbish women as there are rubbish men sitting as MPs.’
Outspoken Ms Butler also stated that women needed to be ‘spectacular’ and ‘driven’ to be elected as MPs, unlike men.
‘Misogyny and online bullying were big factors in preventing women entering the political arena but there were also practical things which could be changed.’
A record 208 female MP's were elected in the last election - but this still only represents 32% of all MPs in the House of Commons.
Whereas there are 210 women in the House of Lords - this represents 26 per cent of the overall total.
In European Parliament, women equate for 41 per cent.
