the festival of Eid ul-Adha
6 October 2014
On Saturday, 4 October, Muslims begin celebrating the festival of Eid ul-Adha -a three-day event marking the end of the annual pilgrimage (Hajj) made by millions of Muslims in Saudi Arabia. It commemorates Ibrahim’s (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his son, in submission to Allah's (God's) command.
To honour this, many Muslims offer to feed the poor. This is usually done through a charity or by sending money to poorer countries through relatives living abroad.
