We Love Waitrose
Youmanity reports on a generous community initiative by supermarket chain Waitrose. Already in its 10th year, Community Matters is a scheme whereby selected charities showcased by the supermarket may receive up to £1K cash donation.
We say 'may' because Waitrose showcases three different charities every month and to win the funds is the charity that is voted the most by customers. That is, upon checking out, besides a till receipt, customers receive a green token by they can drop in a box of the good cause they would most like to support.
"The more tokens a charity gets, the bigger the donation they receive. Each month every Waitrose & Partners branch donates £1,000 between the three local good causes," explain Laura and Indrani (pictured) from the Bayswater branch.
Needless to say, by placing a token in the Community Matters box customers help local charities. Since the launch of the scheme in 2008, Waitrose has donated over £30 million to good causes in store and online!
We applaud Waitrose for their much appreciated generosity and very much hope Youmanity may soon become one of their nominated charities.
