World Day for Cultural Diversity
World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is a UNESCO’s Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity. It offers an opportunity to deepen our understanding about values of cultural diversity and to strengthen human interactions.
Three-quarters of global conflicts have a cultural issues. Bridging the gap between different cultures is urgent and indispensable to foster peace, stability and development.
“Our cultural diversity is the common heritage of humanity. It is a source of renewal of ideas and societies, through which we open up to others and craft new ways of thinking. This diversity provides opportunities for peace and sustainable development” said UNESCO Director-General Iringa Bokova.
On the occasion of World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, a campaign called ‘Do One Thing For Diversity and Inclusion’ was launched by UNESCO and the UN Alliance of Civilizations. By encouraging people and organizations from around the world the campaign aims to:
1. raise awareness worldwide about the importance of intercultural dialogue, diversity and inclusion
2. build a world community of individuals to support diversity in ordinary daily-life
3. combat polarization and stereotypes among people from different cultures.
