Let's STEP TOGETHER 10th October
Celebrating World Mental Health Day 2022
To mark World Mental Health Day 2022 - Monday 10th October, ‘Youmanity’ and community outreach organisation, Speaker Box Street Party, launch the Step Together danceathon - a dance project designed to help improve mood, reduce stress and anxiety.
Research suggests that dancing produces mood-improving chemicals, ‘happy hormones’ that stay in the body as long as a week after the last dance. According to dance psychologist, Dr Peter Lovatt, just ten minutes of dancing can provide a good work out for the body and brain, raising the heartbeat to cause a release of feel-good endorphins, reducing our stress levels.
Director of Speaker Box Street Party, Simon Samaki:
“The danceathon will be evocative of the diverse cultures from around the world. Passengers will be able to take a break from their commute by joining in or simply listening to the tunes of samba, salsa, hula and, of course, hip-hop.”
Step Together will take place on 10th October between 12 midday and 1pm at Heron Quay DLR Station (ground floor). Two more dance appointments will unfold at London City Hall (5-6pm) with our friends from Thrive LDN and Trafalgar Square with Londoners and tourists from all over the world (8-9pm).
Director at Youmanity, Angelo Iudice:
“Dancing gets people together and is good for us. Science shows that just a few minutes of dancing raises the heartbeat to cause a release of feel-good endorphins, reducing our stress levels."
