Freedom to love whom you choose
Investigators believe that a British woman reported by her family has having died through natural causes, turned to have been the victim of an ‘honor killing’.
Samia Shahid, a 28-year beautician from Bradford, had been visiting relatives in Pakistan who did not approved of her marriage. Mrs Shahid had not agreed to her family’s arranged marriage and tied the knot with her current British husband instead.
The victim’s relatives had stated that Samia had died of an heart attack, but forensics later established she had in fact been strangled.
Every year, some 500 women are killed by relatives in Pakistan. They stand ‘accused’ of having dented the family honor. Such murders are a clear violation of human rights as well as preventing one’s freedom to love whom they heart coommands.
