Anti-Bullying Week (ABW) takes place in schools across England (and hopefully beyond) to remind educators as well as parents and children that bullying is not acceptable. Bullying is a crime.

Each year ABW has a theme for which 2019 is promoting Change Starts With Us and is happening from Monday 11th November - Friday 15th November 2019.

Whether it is verbal, physical, online or in-person, bullying has a significant impact on a child’s life well in to adulthood. By making small, simple changes, we can break this cycle and create a safe environment for everyone. Because together, we can challenge bullying. Change starts with a conversation. It starts with checking in. It starts with work together.

Supporting ABW, Youmanity Ambassador Rory McGuire spoke to over 150 school children from South London at Greenwich Picturehouse before watching the film “Wonder”. This is a film about a young boy who gets bullied at school because he looks “different” and how he overcomes being bullied.

Rory spoke about his experiences of growing up with a facial birthmark, why you should never bully anyone because of how they look. Rory also told children how he overcame the prejudice that he faced as a young boy and some of the wonderful actions he now does to raise social awareness to help others.
