Trainers for the Laos children
What an amazing turnout at the Shrewsbury House School for the CONVERSION charitable project designed to benefit the children of Laos.
Over 500 pairs of trainers were passed on from the children of the school to their peers in Laos. It is a known fact that many children - renowned for being great rugby players - actually play barefoot because they do not have access to boots.
It is for this reason that Steve Blevins - the founder of CONVERSION - began the scheme of colleting used trainers back in April. Needless to say, the Shrewsbury School children loved the idea of showing their friendship to the children from Laos. Some of them had in fact met one another the previous year during an exchange program. They also had an opportunity to play rugby together and really appreciate how brilliant they were at this sport.
It came to no surprise when to congratulate Steve Blevins on having realized such a wonderful gesture the Ambassador to Laos, Sayakane SISOUVONG, The Mayor Kingston, Geoff Austin and James Berry MP all showed up at the Shrewsbury School.
“Today is a significant milestone in the evolution of the CONVERSION sports shoes collection scheme. The presence and endorsement by esteemed guests will make a difference to what we can achieve further.
There can be no other more satisfying feeling creating opportunities for young children,” said Mr Blevins.
The event at the Shrewsbury House School was also attended by the Chair of Youmanity, Angelo Iudice, who supported the scheme from its onset appreciating the clear objective of CONVERSION as well as the social and human value intrinsic to such a scheme.
