World's very first LGTB conference
The world's very first LGTB conference took place in liberal Amsterdaam. It was attended by officers' from 26 different nations, underwritten by the United Nations and with the focus on LGB&TQI matters.
Ranging from internal policy-making to efforts made at International level to address the LGBT Human Rights issues with countries openly hostile to LGBT people - UGANDA.being ine such country.
The aim of the conference was to share best practice but also to learn of the work being done in many places to bring about positive change.
A film was shown of a young person - Valentijn de Hingh - transitioning form male to female from age of 8 to 17 and the access she had to puberty-blocking medication and how much that had helped.
Most sobering was the statement made by Randy W. BERRY appointment by President Obama in 2015 as Special Envoy for LGBT human Rights Stated:
"One Transgender person is murdered globally every two days" what this would mean for policing.
Montenegro came out as best practice for LGB and Trans awareness both interally within their police force and externally working withn partner agencies to imrpove learning and understanding.
To represent London's Metropolitan Police were officers Stephenie Robinson and Anthony Forsyth.
The next LGTB world conference will take place in Toronto in 2019.
